Software Request Process

Teachers, please fill out the software request form before you intend to use a software application, website tool or iPad app with students.

The form helps the District to know the software, websites, iPad apps and Chromebook apps/extensions that are being used in each building, enables consolidation and support of these tools, and guides teachers to follow the necessary regulations for use with regards to student terms of service. In some cases, curriculum leaders may be involved in the process for approving the request.

Before filling out the form, please keep in mind the following:

  • Look at the list of titles that are already in use. You do not need to fill out the request form for titles that are already approved for use in the district. See your building’s Technology Specialist if you have questions about access to or merits of the software tool.
  • In-App Purchases: We are unable to support (purchase and install) iPad apps that require in-app purchases because they do not conform to our district’s purchasing policies.
  • Advertising: Elementary schools must use tools that are not supported by advertising (ie: purchase the full version instead of the “lite” version that displays ads to children). Middle and High School must use the non-ad version when available.
  • Parental Permission: The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA ) requires sites to receive parental permission for those under the age of 13 years before student accounts have been created. Best practice is for schools (not teachers) to act in loco parentis to create accounts. WPS has identified and shared with parents sites for which students will receive an online account (Student Online Account Policy). Teachers who want to use a different website with their students will need to first submit a request and then inform parents (in writing or via email) about the use of the new tool before students login.

Once the form has been submitted the building’s Technology Specialist will connect with you directly. The Technology Department will do its best to reduce the lag time between submitting the form and having students access the requested tool.

We appreciate your cooperation with this new process. Please don’t hesitate to contact your building’s Technology Specialist or Bethann Monahan, K-12 Dept. Head for Instructional Technology, with any questions.
