`THE WAYSIDE INN
Want something creamy and wholesome, with a flavorful, rich sauce? If you answered yes to that question, then the Wayside Inn is the perfect place for you.
The Wayside Inn is a restaurant dating back to 1716, with the original colonial atmosphere, along with great service, and even better food. You have a variety of options before the meal even begins! The bread basket holds three different types of bread (the cornbread was by far the most delicious) and comes with four different types of cracker, along with
two different types of butter (and yes people, this is all for free).
I asked the Wayside Inn staff members what their favorite dishes were, and they all enthusiastically replied “The Crab Cakes, and the Calamari.”
I decided to follow their recommendations, and was thoroughly pleased.
The Crab Cakes were really awesome, and they had just the right amount of crab, so that there was a faint sea flavor, without that nasty fishiness you commonly find in shellfish.
Unfortunately for me,the rubbery Calamari did have a nasty fishiness. Calamari is a fancy word for squid, but the dish was anything but fancy. The texture was gritty and chewy, and looking back on it, that particular squid was probably distantly related to a rubber band. Essentially, it felt like chewing on a piece of tire. The sauce was even worse, filled with cheap over-powering spices, and probably food coloring too.
At this point, you’re probably thinking, “why would I go to this crummy place with squid-sauce that tastes like catfood?” Well, there is one reason: the duck. The Wayside in has turned roasting duck into an awe-inspiring
art. Even if you are not ordering the duck, you can tell from its breathtaking aroma and dazzling golden rown coloring that it is not your average run-of-the-mill over-buttered waterfowl. Even as I devoured my remarkable Crab Cakes, I couldn’t help it as I stared jealously at my brother’s plate. So trust me, or you will regret it, just order the duck!
The Wayside Inn is located at 72 Wayside Inn Road, Sudbury MA. (They even have their own road! How cool is that?!?)
