To whoever has done something bad on purpose. To whoever heard something but did not stand up for it. I have one question, Why? Why would you target someone just because of the color of their skin? Why would you say that stuff and not think twice?
When I was little, my parents always taught me to be kind to everyone, no matter who they are, the color of their skin, who they like, or who they identify as. During COVID, I went to a peaceful protest around town, and even though I got tired, I remembered all the people I was walking for so I kept going.
Every color of skin is beautiful. It’s not right to target someone just because they are different. Different is good. I mean, if we were all the same, the world would be pretty boring. One of my favorite quotes of all time is said by Martin Luther King, and it states, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” I think that that’s a quote we can all live by. I have faith in the world becoming more equal and diverse, and I have faith in changing people’s mind about others. Always stick up for what’s right, it’s never too late. For example, if you see someone being mean to someone in the hallway, it doesn’t have to be about their skin either, you should go up to them and say that wasn’t right. I know that sounds cheesy and you’re probably like “Yea i’ve heard that thousands of times” But right now, our world, and school needs it especially.
A few months ago I was sitting in homeroom before class started. There were two girls talking to each other next to me and one was braiding the other’s hair. They were in their sports uniforms because they had a game right after school. No one thought anything of it. It was just a normal day. Then the boy sitting in front of them said, “Girls can play sports?!” He said this sarcastically. I almost said something but I didn’t. I still regret it to this day.
So, if you see someone being mean, say something and speak up.
