Welcome to the cooking section of The Orange and Black. Each edition I’ll be releasing 1 or 2 new recipes, and occasionally some cooking tips. I might even do some restaurant reviews. Hopefully you enjoy this section. Bon Appetit!
Here are a few cooking tips that could make your life easier, or just general safety advice
- Don’t cross contaminate! Clean your cutting boards after each use, especially if you are putting raw meat, fish, or eggs on something, the same goes with plates, utensils, kitchen devices, etc.
- After working with raw meat, fish or eggs wash your hands, this can prevent bacteria getting from raw meat to other foods
- Cut with your knuckles facing the knife, this can help avoid cutting of part of your fingers, put your hands in a claw shape then grab what your cutting with that shape, you should be using your dominant hand for the cutting, unless you find the other hand more comfortable.
- When cooking for the first time, have a back up meal (such as leftovers, or instant ramen (Shin ramen is spicy and delicious).
- It is easy to under estimate the amount of time it takes to cook a meal.
- Follow the CDC Guidelines.
