Do You Walk the Walk or Just Talk the Talk?

By Sharmila Mysore, Alexis George and Maddie Moran

The way you walk is the way most people perceive you. Whether it’s vertically, horizontally, or just plain awkward (in the middle school we have it all). Walking is away of life for most of us. So let’s start off with the guys. Most guys walk in their own special way some examples of this are:

The Swagger; walking with hips forward, back slouched slightly forward, and arms swinging all over the place or in their pockets. A slight bounce to their step and let’s be serious, confidence all over their face.

Hunched Over: This is usually what guys do to get by in the hallways, or avoid direct eye contact with someone (or anyone). Walking tilted forward with head usually down ( looking at the floor) Sometimes slowly and some full speed ahead waiting for no one to get out of their way.

The Hunched Hood: Guys, let’s be serious here, just because you hide under your hood doesn’t mean you look mysterious or cool. It’s the hood over head and bulky shoes.  With their head and shoulders swaying back and forth. Every inch seems like a mile with their striding steps and flowing limbs.

Okay here we go, onto the girls…

The Model walk: Okay girls, we all have this walk and we know it. Hips swaying back and forth with slightly bent knees. Feet close together and arms slightly swinging. Shoulders slightly lifting with each step. Waddling a little bit like a penguin :). That vacant look in their eyes. Yes it’s the model walk.

The Short Step: This walk represents hiding. On the run but don’t want to be noticed? This is the walk for you. It’s the literally what the name says. Head low and forward, shoulders angled in front of you, binder clenched in your arm. Each small step taking you swiftly down the hallway from class to class.  Ladies, don’t be embarrassed! You’re a girl, so walk like a girl!

The Chain: Walking arm in arm down a hallway? Sounds hazardous (it definitely is!)  But of course, that’s all the more reason to walk arm in arm stretched in a line across the hall. Not waiting for anyone who falls behind or is in the way. Yes, every so often poles and walls do pose a problem… but who cares! Your friends can walk with you this time.

The bouncing bobble walk: Up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down…….. Ya I’m sure you’ve seen it. This walk is toe, heel unlike the normal heel toe. This is the walk you are most likely to make fun of, but don’t worry if you think this one applies to you because this is by far the most fun to do. it’s definitely one to be noticed in so if you ever feel upset give this a try!

So whether you’re a swagger or a chain the point is you know your walk is a part of you! 🙂
