On Tuesday, October 5, 2022, Wayland Middle School was going against Concord Middle School on a cold, rainy day. Both teams prepared to play on the soggy grass. Who will win: Wayland or Concord? Before continuing the rest of the article here are some basic facts about field hockey. There are two rounds in a whole game, each round is about 30 minutes. The attire that you need to wear to make sure you are safe is a mouth guard, shin guards, safety glasses and you cannot have any sorts of jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets etc. You always have to use the flat side of the hockey stick or else you won’t be able to hit the ball. The ball cannot go in the air if so then it’s a foul. Only 10 players can be on the field for each team and goalies. You must hit the ball 5 yards (15 feet) to hit the goal. There are 5 rules that players need to follow or it’s a foul. You cannot tackle from behind or shoulder to shoulder. The ball cannot hit the players feet or else you are on the bench. Do not raise the hockey stick above your waist that could harm players. To continue the article, we will tell you what a player said about field hockey. We will not be stating any names since the player wanted to stay anonymous. One of the players said how she got interested in field hockey by watching a game. She asked her parents if she could play. She then started field hockey when she was 7 or 8 years old
Basic Rules for Field Hockey:
- Field hockey stick cannot go above the waist
- Hit the ball 5 yards to hit the goal
- Ball cannot hit feet
- 10 players on the field and the goalies
- Use the flat side of hockey stick
- Attire: mouth guard, shin guards, no jewelry
- 10 players on field, one goalie for both teams
- Two rounds each round is 30 minutes
- Ball cannot go on the ground
- Must hit the ball 5 yards before hitting into the goalie
