are a virtual treasure chest that are mostly in online video games. you can get them by either countless hours of playing the game or you can buy one instead, for a certain amount of money. They can Contain cosmetic items, powers ups, and gear that can dramatically affect your chances of winning a game. More companies like EA are now creating games with loot
boxes that are ruining games and have an unfair chance of actually winning something good.
Gambling in video games?
Some people say loot boxes are a form of gambling, other people say it isn’t because your earning something out of a loot box
every time you open one. The Belgium Gambling Committee says that loot boxes are a form of gambling.
The country’s minister of justice, Koen Geens wants to see them banned Europe wide. And in Washington a senator introduced a bill that would require the states gambling committee to see if loot boxes were actually gambling, and if so they would suggest how to regulate them. So games that include loot boxes might get a kick in the butt. It’s mostly a person’s opinion. Would you agree that loot boxes are a form of gambling?
Are you being tricked?
Gambling is just one problem but another one is that gaming companies are doing mind tricks on YOU. They have a way to make you think you will get a rare item out of the next loot box. In casinos it’s illegal for the owner to increase your chance of winning a game at any time. But in video games they can increase the chances of you getting something good. People have been able to figure this out. They know the more you buy the better your chances are to get something really good. So now every time you buy a loot box you feel like a meter goes up in your head, You feel that you are getting closer and closer and closer to a great prize, Until finally you do get a rare item and that meter resets. But after that your left with an empty wallet. The problem with this is that when you are buying loot boxes you won’t want to stop because you know you could get something good out of the next loot box, making you think that stopping could break that bar.These problems can lead to people and kids buying loot boxes and trying to gamble to get the best gear and getting addicted on trying to get the coolest items. So before you buy a loot box, you may want to consider if it is worth losing your money, and if your actual chances of getting something good. You should make sure companies don’t trick you.
