Mr. Farley is an eighth grade math teacher. The Wayland Middle School Athletic Department offered Mr. Farley the cross country coaching job, and he accepted it.
Mr. Farley and Ms. Sands started the cross country program in 1998. He coached the team for 18 years and then took a few years off so he could watch his own kids compete in their middle school and high school cross country meets. He said he is happy to be back at it this year working with Coach Isales.
Their main goal is for every athlete to achieve their fastest time on the 1.7 mile course here at Wayland Middle School by the end of the season. “It is awesome,” Coach Farley said, “when runners lower their time every meet.”
“Both the girls and boys are having very strong seasons filled with personal bests meet after meet.” Coach Farley said. Both teams are 6-1 and they want to end on a high note. He says the team did an outstanding job at the Carlisle Invitational which is a meet that happened on Monday, October 17 and has teams from 18 schools. They had two girls finish in the top ten with 200 runners in the race. The boys had four runners in the top 30.
Coach Farley says the cross country team is a great group of kids and that they have about 50 kids who attend practice regularly, support each other, and are serious about the sport. “It has been a great season!” he said.
