Introduction
This is the first of a series of Food Slideshows. Following slideshows will feature exotic fruits, junk food, and top foods overall.
The meats in the following slideshow are based on taste and health. There will also be a bonus part of the Top Tastiest Meat later.
Taste
Taste will be based on general yumminess. All these taste rankings will be opinionated so you might not agree.
Health
While studies repeatedly show people should be eating less red meat and meat overall, these health rankings will be based on nutrition facts and type.
Enjoy the meat-fest!
5. Pork Tenderloin
While pork is considered one of the more heavy meats, lean cuts feature low fat and calories while filling you up with lots of nutrients.
4. Roast Beef
Still want to eat Subway’s roast beef? OK. Roast beef is leaner than other types of deli meats and also contains less saturated fat and a nice seven grams of protein per slice
.
3. Ostrich
No chicken on this list, but only because there’s not enough space. But ostrich is an adequate substitution though, because it only contains 2.8 grams of fat compared with chicken’s 7.4. A three ounce tasting will give you over 24 grams of protein.
2. Lamb Shank
Lamb shank is actually really tasty, at least in my opinion. It is fairly healthy with under six grams of fat and about 150 calories in a three ounce serving. It scores high on the tastiness test, which helps its high ranking. Paired with any side ranging from green beans and cranberry sauce or French fries and ketchup, this shank is a perfect dinner meat.
1. Pork Chops
This meat scores extremely high on the taste test, as the juicy, tender meat cooked right with a select choice of spices can make your mouth water. But the factor that propels this meat over the others is the healthiness. There is only 147 calories per serving with an amazing 23 grams of protein. There is also little sodium in this wonderful meat.
Bonus Meat!
You guessed it, STEAK! It is the staple of fancy restaurants. It is considered the favorite meat or even food of many people, with only lobster and possibly calamari rivaling it. While it is fatty, it is just too tasty.
I will be describing the famed Grilled Rib-Eye Steak. The rib-eye has a total of 63 grams of fat in a 291 gram serving (one steak), which seems overwhelming. But a nice 34 grams consisting of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat, with the latter having 31 grams. The rest is made up of saturated fat, and the dreaded trans fat holding 4.3 grams in the steak. There is also 847 calories.
Also, try not to eat much fat during lunch or breakfast, as the %Daily Value of a 2,000 calorie diet is already 93% for Total Fat. It also has 140% of saturated fat.
But a good thing can happen, too! This rib-eye steak holds 69 grams of protein, which is 138% of the %DV.
